Now that SteamWorld Dig 2 has been revealed to the world, Image & Form Games CEO Brjánn Sigurgeirsson has opened up about the SteamWorld Quest.

The name had emerged after the developer was successful in their application for a grant from the European Commission’s Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA), leaving fans speculating about what was next for the SteamWorld series.

“Some of you might be asking ‘What was SteamWorld Quest?’ I mean, that leaked on Twitter and Facebook, and everyone was asking ‘What is SteamWorld Quest? It’s the next game from Image & Form.’ Well, the thing is SteamWorld Quest was actually a red herring that we threw out because we were applying for funding from the EU [European Union] from the Creative Europe programme. And, we had a good feeling that SteamWorld Dig 2 was going to make the cut,” Sigurgeirsson explained.

“So, we knew that if we named it that in the application – SteamWorld Dig 2 – well, we wouldn’t have anything to surprise you guys with. So, it was a true-blue red herring you could call it. We called it SteamWorld Quest because that was just as fluffy as anything we could think up. SteamWorld Quest could be just about any game out there.

“And, it isn’t very far from the truth either. SteamWorld Quest is actually a good nickname for SteamWorld Dig 2 if you like it.”

SteamWorld Dig 2 will debut on Nintendo Switch in summer 2017.
