Half Asleep has announced that Melatonin – its “rhythm game about dreams and reality merging together” – will release on Nintendo Switch later this year.

You will have the chance to explore the mind of the game’s main character, encountering surreal challenges based on everyday life set against “colourful original music that organically flows with the gameplay and visuals.”

With the experience using animations and sound cues “to keep you on beat without any intimidating overlays or interfaces,” you can let yourself be immersed as you harmonise your way through each dreamy level.

The developer has outlined the game’s key features as below:

  • Gameplay: Every level in Melatonin introduces a new way to follow the rhythm. As you progress through the game, you’ll unlock more chapters, challenge modes, and mashups. Unfamiliar with rhythm games? Practice mode is used to guide you through the beat and assist options are included to help you if you’re feeling lost.
  • Themes: Melatonin explores the relationship between the dreams we have when we’re asleep and the experiences we go through when we’re awake. Piece together elements about the main character’s life as you dive deeper and deeper into their dreams at night.
  • Art & Music: The game features a colourful visual style with art and animations that have been fully hand-drawn for resolutions up to 4K. The vivid music has also been produced to flow with the gameplay and visuals for an immersive experience.

Melatonin will release digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide “later this year.”
