Square Enix has revealed a release date for Star Ocean: First Departure R on Nintendo Switch, .

Developed by TOSE, Star Ocean: First Departure was an enhanced remake of the original game in the action role-playing series.

It was first released for the PlayStation Portable (PSP) in 2007, and now, some 12 years later, is destined for a high-definition remaster on current-gen consoles.

With an action-packed combat system and movie sequences from world-famous animation studio Production I.G, the game takes place from Space Date 346.

When a Terran Federation ship touches down on the planet Roak, the crew, assisted by a stalwart band of local heroes, must investigate a mysterious phenomenon to halt a galactic war.

The high-definition remaster will let players choose between the original voice cast from the PSP version in Japanese or English, or the newly recorded version that stars the voice cast from the original Super Famicom release.

The game’s battle difficulty has been rebalanced to let you “enjoy more challenge in combat,” and a Speed Mode will let you increase your movement speed to explore the world more quickly.

Star Ocean: The Last Hope illustrator Katsumi Enami has also drawn brand new character illustrations, although you can choose to use those from the original game.

Star Ocean: First Departure R will release on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide on December 5th.
