Japan’s Mainichi Shimbun reports that Daishima was involved in an accident at Izu Marine Park’s diving school which is situated off the coast of Shizuoka Prefecture. He lost consciousness, and was transported to hospital where he sadly passed away.

Daishima had a storied career at Square Enix, where he worked across Romancing SaGa, Secret of Mana, Parasite Eve, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy IX, and Final Fantasy XII. He worked in roles such as monster design, field graphics, battle effects graphics, and background design.
