Square Enix clarify stance on bringing Dragon Quest XI to Nintendo NX

Square Enix seemingly became the first third-party publisher to announce their intention to support Nintendo’s NX, pledging to bring both Dragon Quest X and Dragon Quest XI to the “dedicated game platform.” But, they have since worked hard to backtrack on such stance.

“Dragon Quest XI, which we announced today, as well as Dragon Quest X, which I’m working as a producer, are planned for release on the NX, which Nintendo is currently developing,” producer Yosuke Saito was reported to have stated at the event.

Even Japan’s gaming outlets interpreted it in such way, but, in a press release issued later that day, Square Enix tried to reiterate that it was only under consideration for NX.

Now, Square Enix has tried to dispel the situation with an additional statement made to Kotaku.

“Our press release contained the official statement that had been originally planned, and there is no reason to believe any changes were made mid-way to the content of the official announcement,” they clarified. “The comment made during the event was not based on the official statement, so please allow us to correct our statement at this moment. We regret any confusion this may have caused.”

Ultimately that means that, while they aren’t yet ready to make the announcement, it could still happen. The waiting game continues…
