Square Enix has shared a special movie for Final Fantasy 9, celebrating the game’s 25th anniversary alongside commemorative merchandise and the Timeless Tale vinyl record.
Released for the original PlayStation across Japan on 7 July 2000, the game has gone on to sell more than 8.9 million copies around the world.
“In a world reminiscent of a picture book, this sweeping narrative depicts the journey of those searching for a place to call home,” the publisher reflected on the game. “The theme of returning to one’s roots was the driving force behind this title. Together, Zidane the thief, Princess Garnet, and Vivi the black mage, each with their own hopes and dreams, embark on an epic adventure, drawn ever by the light of the crystal.”
Final Fantasy 9 is now available digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide.
