Nintendo have aimed big with Splatoon in the UK, stating that the Wii U exclusive’s marketing push would rival that surrounding Mario Kart 8’s launch last year.

It’s paid off at least with launch sales allowing the ink-splattering shooter to become the fifth fastest-selling Wii U title, securing second place in the UK All-Format Software Chart. GFK Chart-Track further clarify that it has also dethroned Ubisoft’s ZombiU to become the console’s “biggest ever launch of new IP.”

More importantly, it appears to have partly boosted hardware sales. That’s evident through Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U climbing the All-Format chart, whereas Mario Party 10 and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD re-entered in No. 37 and No. 40.
