Soul Saga developer discusses Wii U GamePad concepts

Having achieved its Kickstarter stretch goal, indie JRPG Soul Saga will eventually see release for Wii U through the Nintendo eShop.

Alongside such fact, indie developer Mike Gale has shared his early ideas for how the Wii U GamePad will be implemented, indicating that it will become a “steampunk styled cell phone.”

“I have been thinking a lot about it. For starters, the player will have a steampunk styled cell phone in Soul Saga to communicate with guild members and other people in the world,” Gale explained to

“I think this would find the perfect place on the Wii U controller. If the player gets an e-mail, phone call, or text message then it would pop up on the Wii U controller like a smart phone! I also want to implement a radar and other HUD elements to the Wii U GamePad for airship exploration.

“I have many other ideas, but I’d really like to think what the fans of Soul Saga think, so I will be making an update sometime within the last week to gather suggestions!”
