Soul Calibur 6 Not In Development For Nintendo Switch

Do your souls still burn? Bandai Namco Entertainment surprised the world when they announced at The Game Awards that Soul Calibur 6 was in development, but, with Nintendo Switch not being present on the stage of history, many have held out hope that it could still be destined for the portable home console.

When directly asked whether a Nintendo Switch version was being considered so that Link could make a return as a playable character for the first time since Soul Calibur 2 on GameCube, producer Motohiro Okubo reasoned that the weapon-based fighting game had entered development long before they knew what Nintendo’s new console would be.

“Soul Calibur 6 development started more than three years ago. And nobody knew anything about Switch back then. So, as a matter of fact we are not working on Switch, as of now,” Okubo clarified to Metro UK.

“But of course, personally, I’m interested in the platform. So if the Unreal Engine [4] can adapt to Switch, and evolve itself, then maybe the possibility will be more.”

With Okuba’s interest in Nintendo Switch coupled with the fact that the portable home console supports Unreal Engine 4, that means that the chance isn’t entirely off the table. However, whether we see Soul Calibur 6 release on Nintendo Switch or if it is a separate game that caters more specifically to the platform remains to be seen.
