Sony: Nintendo failing “could be detrimental to the market”

Sony UK’s managing director, Fergal Gara, has indicated that Nintendo’s lack of success with the Wii U so far could have greater implications on the gaming market.

Whilst the Nintendo 3DS steadily continues to thrive, the lack of traction and sales momentum behind their latest home console largely led to the company reporting a loss for the fiscal year.

Gara admits that if this doesn’t change, Sony will have to look to creating games for “the younger consumer group that they serve rather well,” an initiative they have already begun with PlayStation 4 launch title Knack.

“[The decline of Nintendo] could be detrimental to the market, unless people like us raise our game and help tap into the younger consumer group that they serve rather well,” Gara discussed with Trusted Reviews.

“That is the challenge to us. We need to bring maybe more family-friendly, more casual experiences into the market. I think there’s a big market segment there that we should take the challenge to engage and I see lots of potential to do that.”
