Over the past weekend, Sonic the Hedgehog celebrated reaching the ripe age of 22 years old.

Having first released on the SEGA Mega Drive (or Genesis) way back on 23rd June 1991, the speedy blue blur has lived an illustrious life across numerous consoles and handhelds since creation.

Nintendo’s worldwide partnership with the publisher will see Nintendo platforms receive multiple Sonic releases this year, such as Mario & Sonic at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, Sonic Lost World, and an as yet unannounced title.

It’s certainly going to be a great way to celebrate, happy birthday Sonic!
