After announcing Special Stages at San Diego Comic-Con, SEGA has revealed that Sonic Mania will also have Bonus Stages and a Time Attack mode.

The Bonus Stages, which are called “Blue Spheres,” challenge players to guide Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles through a series of blue spheres to clear the stage. But, once touched, the blue spheres will turn red which, when touched, will instantly end the Bonus Stage.

Those that successfully complete the Bonus Stage will receive a Silver Medallion, while those that collect all blue spheres and rings with a perfect score will be awarded a Gold Medallion.

The Time Attack mode, unsurprisingly, will see players compete for the fastest speed in the world with their times recorded on the game’s online leaderboard.

Meanwhile, in Special Stages players will chase down enemy UFOs to secure Chaos Emeralds. Grabbing blue spheres will provide a speed boost to their meter, that, once full, will see the Mach level increase.

Sonic Mania will release on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide on August 15th.
