SEGA has announced that Sonic Mania’s release has been delayed to summer, with such news having been announced at the blue blur’s dedicated panel held at SXSW 2017.

“The dev team is working extremely hard, trying to get the game to where it needs to be. They really want to make a great game and deliver a great game to you, and, in order to do that, they need a little bit more time to finish the game,” Head of Sonic Team Takashi Iizuka shared at the SXSW 2017 panel.

“So, we have looked at that. We really want to encourage the team to do their best, and present a really quality game to you. We would like to change the date we originally spoke about, from spring 2017 to summer 2017.”

It wasn’t all bad news, however. SEGA revealed that players will be able to take to the skies above Angel Island once more, with Flying Battery Zone making a return from Sonic 3 and Knuckles – the first glimpse of which you can see below!

Sonic Mania will release this summer on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch.
