SEGA has revealed that it had originally planned to release Sonic Frontiers in 2021, but the company made a decision to delay the game “to improve the quality of the title.”

That decision came in response to the introduction of “game testing based on external evaluations,” which resulted in them

“Originally it was planned to be released on this year, the 30th anniversary of Sonic, but we have postponed the release for a year in order to further brush up the quality,” SEGA said in response to a shareholder’s question.

“Not only for this title, but during the development phase, we have been steadily conducting analysis to improve the quality of the title before release, such as introducing game testing based on external evaluations, and I have a feeling that it will become a good game and have high expectations for it.”

Revealed at The Game Awards 2021, the iconic blue blur will star in his “first-ever open-zone-inspired gaming experience” which has been led by producer Sachiko Kawamura and director Morio Kishimoto.

With the chance to explore the visually stunning, open-zone realm called Starfall Islands, you can “accelerate to new heights and experience the thrill of high-velocity open-zone freedom” – landscapes packed with dense forests, overflowing waterfalls, sizzling deserts and more.

Sonic Frontiers will release at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide in Holiday 2022.
