Solid Snake Caught Sneaking Into Super Smash Bros. For Nintendo Switch

Solid Snake has been caught trying to sneak into Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch, hoping to return to the mascot brawler after his absence in the character roster for the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS iterations.

In a moment reminiscent of his appearance in Super Smash Bros. Brawl’s The Subspace Emissary, Lucario had used its unique ability to sense energy emitted by all living creatures to discover the Metal Gear protagonist hiding under a cardboard box. That the box was destined for Masahiro Sakurai’s office should be seen as no coincidence.

The former Green Beret and highly skilled special operations soldier has been angry at being out of work since Hideo Kojima’s decision to make Big Boss the main character in Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. That anger only intensified when Snake heard that Kiefer Sutherland would voice the character.

Sources, too, have explained that Konami had lost confidence in supporting Nintendo hardware ever since Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D, which released for Nintendo 3DS in 2012, had unperformed compared to the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection. This may have affected Snake’s chances to return as a challenger.

“Konami had been surprised to learn that consumers would be more interested in buying three remastered games bundled into one package, rather than one remastered game for the same price. They blamed Nintendo rather than themselves for this poor performance,” our source claims.

It is believed that Snake had missed out on appearing in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS after holidaying in Antarctica with the Ice Climbers. He has been racked with regret ever since, we’re told, as he never thought that there was a chance that Nintendo would ever remove them from the fighting series.

Whether Solid Snake will make a return in Super Smash Bros. when it releases on Nintendo Switch later this year, or if his recent behaviour has affected his chances, remains to be seen.
