Snack World revealed as LEVEL-5’s next major cross-media project
Unlike Layton 7 and Fantasy Life 2: Two Moons and the Village of God, LEVEL-5’s next major cross-media project is currently in development for Nintendo 3DS.
Snack World was revealed by LEVEL-5 CEO Akihiro Hino as part of their Vision 2015 event this week, sharing plans for a game to be supported by a movie, anime series, toys and other merchandise.
LEVEL-5 are really looking to make use of the NFC technology made available by the New Nintendo 3DS, and on older systems by the peripheral being released this summer, partnering with Takara Tomy to produce keychain items referred to as Jara. Once scanned, these expand to their full-size in-game to then retract when not in use – playing an integral role to the IP.
The Crystal Sword item was shown which will be sold in small treasure boxes, with other items to include maps and magic tomes. Hino referred to the project as a “Hyper Casual Fantasy,” meaning that it will look to blend a fantasy setting with the real world, and shared his hope that they can grow it into an even larger success than Yo-kai Watch.
There was little gameplay footage on show, but the company shared a short eight-minute animated movie for which they’ve released the English dubbed version for you to see below.
