Headup Games and Goody Gameworks have announced that Gigapocalypse is coming to Nintendo Switch.

This retro-inspired side-scrolling city-smasher has taken inspiration from Kaiju monster movies such as Godzilla and King Kong, as well as classic games like Rampage.

You will be able to play as nine “Giga” monsters – three Old Gods, three prehistoric monstrosities and three horrors from outer space – as you set out to reduce cities to rubble against the beat of a “pumping” heavy metal soundtrack.

With every run your goal is to reach each location’s boss, your Giga becoming more powerful and earning mutation points as you progress. These points can be spent to unlock new mutations, skills, skins or even five tiny minion pets that will accompany you on your reckless and destructive rampages.

There are also Tamagotchi-style minigames and the chance to decorate your Giga’s home with items that will improve them and promise to make them even more menacing.

“It’s been great to see the positive reactions to Gigapocalypse as we’ve added more and more to it throughout the game’s time in Early Access on PC,” explains developer Goody Pundit. “With the many updates and improvements we’ve made, the game is better than ever and I hope console players are looking forward to picking a Giga and laying waste to everything in front of them!”

Gigapocalypse will release digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide on 2nd June 2022.
