SimCity was previously in development for Wii U

I’ve often thought that SimCity, and The Sims for that matter, would have been a natural fit for the Wii U GamePad, even if EA turned their back on the console fairly early on.

We can now be left pondering what might have been, as it has been revealed that a console version of the city-builder was planned to launch with last year’s PC and Mac iteration – lambasted for its “always online” connection – before the publisher later decided to scrap it.

“This just in – EA was working on a SimCity game for consoles – PS3, 360 and Wii U. Cancelled in October 2011,” Unseen64’s Tamaki shared on Twitter. “The game was prototyped, but EA decided not to move forward with it. It would have been released alongside the 2013 game.”

Questioned as to his source, he shared: “I have been speaking to someone who worked on it and some other EA projects.”
