Yacht Club Games has announced that Shovel Knight has sold more than 1.2 million copies worldwide, with 200,000 being attributed to physical copy sales.
Broken down by platform, Nintendo 3DS and Wii U account for 46 percent of the platformer’s overall sales – which splits to 29 percent and 17 percent respectively.
“Shovel Knight has sold 1.2 million units total! 200,000 of those units are physical retail sales,” Yacht Club Games revealed. “We’re still in a bit of shock here! Previously, a successful game in our portfolio would barely break 50k copies sold.”
Beyond this they shared that “the game sales are still very strong,” and that they are typically averaging sales between 25-35,000 copies a month. Steam remains their best-selling platform, but the numbers behind that have seen that success having “benefited the most from discounted sales.” Therefore, in an average month “Nintendo 3DS almost sells twice as much as Steam.”
Work now continues on their Kickstarter stretch goals, which sees King Knight’s campaign, Specter Knight’s campaign, Body Swap and a 4-Player Battle Mode all currently in development.
