The Pokémon Company International has announced that Shiny Rayquaza is now appearing in 5-star Tera Raid Battles in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet.
Set to appear until 23:59 UTC on Sunday 5 January 2025, the Legendary Pokémon appearing during this event has Dragon as its Tera Type and cannot normally be encountered during regular gameplay.
The Shiny Rayquaza that appears in this event can be caught only once per save data, but you can continue to participate in Tera Raid Battles against the Legendary Pokémon to obtain other rewards if you have already caught it.
There is also a mass outbreak event that has started to coincide with Shiny Rayquaza’s appearance, which features pocket monsters that have black colouration when Shiny. Cetoddle can be encountered in the Paldea region, Carbink in the land of Kitakami and Fraxure in the Terarium at Blueberry Academy, with a greater chance that their Shiny variants will appear.
The publisher has provided the below reminder about participating in Tera Raid Battle Events:
- To participate in Tera Raid Battle events, please download the latest Poké Portal News by selecting Poké Portal from the X menu, then Mystery Gift, then Check Poké Portal News. You do not need a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership to receive the latest Poké Portal News.
- You’ll be able to find 5-star Tera Raid Battles after completing Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet’s main story. If you haven’t completed the main story, you may still participate in these Tera Raid Battles by joining other Trainers in multiplayer.
- A paid Nintendo Switch Online membership (sold separately) is required to participate in Tera Raid Battles with other Trainers online.
- Tera Raid Battle events will occur only in the Paldea region.
Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet are now available at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide.
