Niantic has confirmed that Shiny Pikachu, Pichu and Raichu are now appearing in the wild in Pokémon GO worldwide.

The special electric mouse had first appeared to coincide with the Pikachu Outbreak event that The Pokémon Company ran in Japan between Wednesday 9th – Tuesday 15th August, but, now the rest of the world can hunt down the colour variation.

Shiny Pokémon have long been a staple in the Pokémon series, pocket monsters with alternate colours from what is normally expected randomly appearing in wild battles once certain in-game conditions have been met.

Their appearances are still rare, and the difference in colour varies dramatically between species – Pikachu, for instance, only appearing as a darker shade of yellow.

But, these alternate colours also apply to their evolutions, meaning that once you have caught a Shiny Pikachu, it will evolve into Shiny Raichu which has a more distinctive colour difference to a normal Mouse Pokémon.
