SEGA has announced that Shinobi: Art of Vengeance will be released for Nintendo Switch 2 in the coming months.
This will see the 2D action-platformer come to the portable home console successor with “an updated resolution for the platform.”
Set in a uniquely illustrated world created in collaboration with Lizardcube, the game follows longtime series protagonist and master of the ninja arts Joe Musashi, who arrives home to find his village burned to the ground and his clan turned into stone.
Driven by vengeance, he sets off on a quest in which he must battle hordes of enemies and larger-than-life bosses across stunning hand-drawn worlds with multiple paths to discover or unlock.
We enjoyed our time with the game on the original Nintendo Switch, concluding in our review: “Having never played any of the original Shinobi games, I didn’t really know what to expect going into Art of Vengeance. Was it a straightforward beat ‘em up? Or more of a Metroidvania? Well, turns out the answer is both, all wrapped in a stunning visual style – that does suffer slightly on the Switch version in particular – and if the quality on offer here is any indication, then I cannot wait to see what lies in store from the remaining four SEGA titles.”
The publisher has outlined the game’s key features, which include:
- Execute The Ninja Arts With Precision: Wield your vast ninja arsenal, including the great Katana Oborozuki, Kunai, Ninjutsu arts, and Ninpo to vanquish your foes.
- Master The Way of the Shinobi: Unleash limitless combos with unique combat moves, acquire Amulets for enhanced abilities, and discover Ningi tools to overcome obstacles and uncover new paths.
- Journey Through A Stylistic New World: Venture through more than a dozen unique and visually striking stages, from military bases to a scorching desert, challenging platforming puzzles, and hidden secrets.
Shinobi: Art of Vengeance will be released at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2 worldwide on 24 September 2026.
