SEGA has announced that a free demo for its new 2D action platformer Shinobi: Art of Vengeance is now available on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch.

You will have the chance to explore the first stage of the game, Oboro Village, in which you must battle enemies and traverse platforming obstacles. There’s to aim for the highest score in Arcade Mode, and a tease that “the demo unlocks certain gameplay abilities that are normally obtained later in the full game.”

Set in a uniquely illustrated world created in collaboration with Lizardcube, the game follows longtime series protagonist and master of the ninja arts Joe Musashi, who arrives home to find his village burned to the ground and his clan turned into stone.

Driven by vengeance, he sets off on a quest in which he must battle hordes of enemies and larger-than-life bosses across stunning hand-drawn worlds with multiple paths to discover or unlock.

The publisher has outlined the game’s key features, which include:

  • Journey Through a Stylistic New World: Venture through more than a dozen unique and visually striking stages, from military bases to a scorching desert, and tackle challenging platforming puzzles.
  • Execute the Ninja Arts with Precision: Wield your vast ninja arsenal including the great Katana Oborozuki, Kunai, Ninjutsu arts, and Ninpo to vanquish your foes.
  • Master the Way of the Shinobi: Unleash limitless combos with unique combat moves, acquire Amulets for enhanced abilities, and discover Ningi tools to overcome obstacles and uncover new paths.

Shinobi: Art of Vengeance will be released digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide on 29 August 2025.
