ATLUS has announced that Shin Megami Tensei V has sold more than 800,000 copies on Nintendo Switch worldwide.

The news was revealed as part of the New Year message that the company shared with Famitsu, in which they reminded retailers that Persona 4 Arena Ultimax and 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim were coming to the portable home console this year. ATLUS also teased an unannounced project in development, and that its 25th-anniversary celebrations for the Persona series will “enter the next phase.”

The next numbered entry in the acclaimed Japanese RPG series was first revealed to be in development way back at the Nintendo Switch Presentation 2017.

After a grisly murder scene in modern-day Tokyo forces the game’s protagonist to take an unplanned detour on his walk home, an unexpected event sees him left buried and unconscious.

Awakening in an apocalyptic Tokyo, he must now fight for survival in a wasteland known as Da’at. Before bloodthirsty demons can claim his life, a saviour emerges and they unite to become “a mighty being neither human nor demon” called a Nahobino.

Searching for answers in a realm filled with mythical deities and demonic tyrants, you must forge your own path in a battle between light and dark to dictate the fate of the world.

Using a command-based system, uncovering your enemy’s weak points will be key to executing powerful combos in battle. While demons are formidable opponents, some can prove to be worthy allies and recruited through negotiations to fight alongside you. That will help you to survive the horror of a dying world where the ambitions of God and humans clash.

Shin Megami Tensei V is now available exclusively at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide.
