ATLUS has confirmed that Shin Megami Tensei V remains “under active development” for Nintendo Switch.

Persona Central reports that ATLUS made that comment in Weekly Famitsu, when outlining what the year ahead holds for the Japanese developers that participated in the article.

“Both Shin Megami Tensei V and Project Re Fantasy are under active development,” ATLUS stated.

Shin Megami Tensei V’s existence was first revealed at the Nintendo Switch Presentation 2017, where the “new HD title” in the long-running hardcore RPG series was said to be in early development for Nintendo Switch.

We then had the chance to learn more to coincide with Tokyo Game Show 2017, where ATLUS revealed that it would indeed be numbered Shin Megami Tensei V and that it would take place in a modern Japan setting.

And then, in a localised teaser trailer, we saw a high school student walking near a train station.

In the tunnels around Tokyo lie the corpses of devils that died in the city, before the trailer closed with the high school students being surrounded, and presumably killed, by devils that still threaten the city’s inhabitants.

“All the fountains of the great deep broke up and the windows of heaven were opened,” the trailer foretold. “In this lightless age of corruption, we long for the dawn of a new messiah.”

Shin Megami Tensei V will release exclusively for Nintendo Switch worldwide.
