ATLUS has announced that Shin Megami Tensei V will be localised for a western release, exclusively for Nintendo Switch.

The game’s existence was first revealed at the Nintendo Switch Presentation 2017, where the “new HD title” in the long-running hardcore RPG series was said to be in early development for Nintendo Switch.

We then had the chance to learn more to coincide with Tokyo Game Show 2017, where ATLUS revealed that it would indeed be Shin Megami Tensei V and that it would take place in a modern Japan setting.

In the teaser trailer that was released, now localised in English, we can see a high school student walking near a train station. In the tunnels around Tokyo lie the corpses of devils that died in the city, and the trailer closes when high school students are surrounded, and presumably killed, by devils that still threaten the city’s inhabitants.

“All the fountains of the great deep broke up and the windows of heaven were opened,” the trailer now foretells. “In this lightless age of corruption, we long for the dawn of a new messiah.”

Shin Megami Tensei V will release exclusively for Nintendo Switch worldwide.
