Nintendo’s legendary Shigeru Miyamoto and Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri have offered their gratitude to those who have headed to their local cinema to watch The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
Those who check in at their cinema through the Nintendo Today! app can unlock exclusive digital photo frames, smartphone wallpapers and two pre-recorded video messages from the movie’s creative leads.
“Thank you so much for watching The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” Shigeru Miyamoto begins in his video message. “Even though this movie is called The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, I’m sure you saw that we packed it full of material from 40 years of making games with Mario.
“I hope some of the references to our games reminded you of fond memories you have playing them. We’d love it if you felt excited to return to those games and play them again. In the meantime, please look forward to more content featuring Mario from us in the future. All right, here we go!”
Chris Meledandri adds: “Thank you for coming to the theatre today to experience The Super Mario Galaxy Movie the way it was meant to be seen on the big screen!
“The Illumination teams in Paris and Santa Monica spent years working closely with our partners at Nintendo to fill every moment, every inch of the screen, with character details and location designs informed by over 40 years of Mario lore. Your passion has motivated us every step of the way, and I couldn’t be more excited to share this film with fans like you.”
The film stars Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr., Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, Brie Larson as Rosalina, Luis Guzmán as Wart, Issae Rae as Honey Queen, Donald Glover as Yoshi and Glen Powell as Fox McCloud.
“Mario and Luigi, the twin plumbers, apply their ‘let’s-a-go’ attitude to solve everyday problems all over their new home of the Mushroom Kingdom,” the movie’s story synopsis reads. “As they support Princess Peach and work to reform a miniaturised imprisoned Bowser, they meet a new companion – Yoshi.
“Princess Peach’s birthday party sparks a galactic adventure, sending the brothers into space to stop Bowser Jr.’s wicked ambitions and save Rosalina. The addition of the beloved characters Rosalina and Bowser Jr. adds extra spice of big action, comedy, and some shocking revelations to the adventure!”
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is now available to watch in theatres around the world.
