Sonic the Hedgehog creative officer Takashi Iizuka made a surprise appearance to open a special livestream in honour of Sonic’s birthday, celebrating the blue blur’s 35th anniversary.
“I want to take a moment to share my deep appreciation to thank the fans for joining us today and every day, and to Sonic for 35 years of adventuring together,” Iizuka shared in a brief pre-recorded video message. “Here’s to many more years of speed. Happy Birthday, Sonic!”
The livestream is still broadcasting right now, which, with Jacki Jing, GamesCage and RogersBase as hosts, has doubled as a charity fundraiser supporting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
It’s been the worst-kept secret this last week, but the livestream was used to announce that Sonic Frontiers: Definitive Edition is now available on Nintendo Switch 2.
