Private Division and Obsidian Entertainment have announced that The Outer Worlds will release on Nintendo Switch.

The developer has teamed up with Virtuos to bring the single-player sci-fi RPG to the portable home console.

Lost in transit while on a colonist ship bound for the furthest edge of the galaxy, you awake decades later only to find yourself in the midst of a deep conspiracy threatening to destroy the Halcyon colony.

As you explore the furthest reaches of space and encounter various factions, all vying for power, the character you decide to become will determine how this player-driven story unfolds. In the corporate equation for the colony, you are the unplanned variable.

Virtuos will be known to many as the team that has brought Starlink: Battle For Atlas, Dark Souls Remastered, L.A. Noire, Assassin’s Creed III Remastered, Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster, and Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age to Nintendo Switch.

“I’m super excited about this coming to the Switch, because it kind of blends two of my passions,” enthuses Obsidian Entertainment senior producer Matthew Singh.

“I’ve been a lifetime Nintendo fan ever since I was three, I’ve had the NES all the way through every single console and every single handheld.

“I love role-playing games, to be honest. I’ve been working on role-playing games for over a decade now, and I’m super excited to be able to take the type of experience that we have and be able to finally play it on a handheld platform.

“Today we can play a full experience on the go, anywhere you want, and something like The Outer Worlds, I mean, hopefully we can find a new audience for people that may not have even had these types of experiences before.”

The Outer Worlds will release on Nintendo Switch worldwide “following the launch of the other platforms.”
