Perp Games and Saona Studios have teamed up to release Death or Treat on Nintendo Switch in the coming months.
In this “fast-paced, 2D action-roguelite, hack and slash game,” you play as Scary and must defend HallowTown from regular and corporate ghouls to save Halloween.
The team has worked with traditional illustrators to create Halloween-inspired handpainted environments and incredibly detailed animations to lend HallowTown its own unique look and vibe.
“We put so much effort to create a dynamic combat system where you can choose between a bunch of weapons, each one with a different mechanic,” explains Saona Studios CEO Juan José Olivares. “There are also skills and passives that will help you defeat hordes of enemies, which makes every run a unique journey. Working with Perp is a great opportunity to polish and share Death or Treat with the world.”
Perp Games CEO Rob Edwards adds: “Death or Treat is a stunning-looking game that has so much detail and depth to the gameplay. With Double Jump and Dash right from the start, you are thrown straight into a frantic adventure, fighting multiple enemies right from the off. Fans of games like Hollow Knight and Ori and the Blind Forest are going to adore this.”
The publisher has outlined the game’s key features as below:
- Choose your combat style: Combat is one of the fundamental pillars of Death or Treat. Choose your favourite weapon style (fast, heavy or ranged) and face a real horde of enemies in the purest hack ‘n’ slash style: fly through the air and attack the crowd with force, move nimbly and look for their weak point. Collect valuable hidden treasures to unlock new terrifying weapons and spooky skills that will help you in your journey.
- Home, sweet home: HallowTown: Meet the spooky but friendly neighbours of HallowTown, they are a coffin of surprises! Each one of the stores that you will find in HallowTown can provide different profit for your enterprise. You can create new weapons at Frank’s Forge, or buy healing potions at DetoxBucks. Our vampire shopkeeper, Joe Bite Them, will help you get new empty slots for your inventory, and the Pumpkin guys will teach you how to craft magic spells. Finally, go to Pumpkin to trade your ingredients for more candies!
