Satoru Iwata re-elected to Nintendo’s Board of Directors

While Satoru Iwata indicated that he would be unable to attend today’s Annual General Meeting of Shareholders following surgery, Nintendo have confirmed that he has been re-elected to the Board of Directors.

Iwata has faced criticism for not directly tapping into the thriving smart device market, with shareholders increasingly concerned after Wii U sales have continued to fall short of the company’s estimations.

His re-election will grant at least another year to take action to sway the console’s fortunes, driven by Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and collaborative exclusives such as Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta 2, and Devil’s Third.

In the company’s Notice of Resolution, they clarify: “This proposal was approved and resolved as originally proposed. The nine candidates, Messrs. Satoru Iwata, Genyo Takeda, Shigeru Miyamoto, Tatsumi Kimishima, Shigeyuki Takahashi, Satoshi Yamato, Susumu Tanaka, Shinya Takahashi and Hirokazu Shinshi, were re-elected and one candidate, Mr. Naoki Mizutani, was elected, and all ten candidates assumed office as Directors.”
