Nintendo has revealed that Metroid Dread will soon see release on Nintendo Switch, intergalactic bounty hunter Samus Aran’s first new 2D Metroid story in 19 years.
MercurySteam is behind this latest game, which picks up after the events of 2002’s Metroid Fusion on Game Boy Advance. Descending upon planet ZDR to investigate a mysterious transmission sent to the Galactic Federation, she discovers that it has become overrun by vicious alien lifeforms and chilling mechanical menaces.
“The day has come! The new Samus Aran adventure, Metroid Dread for Nintendo Switch is finally here!” the developer enthused on Twitter. “We are excited to share with the world what we have been cooking, taking part in development with Nintendo! The best part is that you can enjoy it this October! With all our love.”
Samus will need to evade E.M.M.I., once DNA-extracting research machines that have since become imposing robotic creatures that are the scourge of ZDR. Tensions will run high as you escape from them, but you will eventually learn what happened to them.
You will also be able to acquire new and familiar abilities that will help you to traverse the dangerous world, returning to previous areas to recover upgrades and discover alternate paths to find a way forward through the sprawling map.
Metroid Dread will release on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide on 8th October 2021.
