Sakurai: “We really shouldn’t have announced” Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS yet

Nintendo unveiled that they were to release the next instalment within the hugely popular Super Smash Bros. franchise on both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS during its E3 Media Presentation, yet nothing – not even concept art or a logo – was shown regarding the game.

There may in fact be a reason for this, the games themselves are in very early infancy stages of development, and Masahiro Sakurai, creative force behind Kirby and the Super Smash Bros. series, commented on Twitter that no elements regarding either version is currently moving forward.

“We really shouldn’t have announced it for the general public at this timing, but since we have to assemble staff, we made the notice,” he wrote. “The future will change depending on the strength of the gathered developers.”

In a later message, Sakurai clarified that development wouldn’t begin until Kid Icarus: Uprising had been completed – which is currently due to release for Nintendo 3DS later this year.
