XSEED Games and Marvelous Europe have announced Rune Factory: Project Dragon is in development, revealed in the Marvelous Game Showcase 2023.

This is set in the Land of the east which has long been referenced but never shown in the series, where Earthmates will have the chance to explore new lands and communities that have Japanese-styled design influences.

“This is a Rune Factory spin-off set in the eastern lands with a Japanese-style aesthetic that’s completely new to the series,” explains Rune Factory series director Shiro Maekawa.

“Well, keen fans of the series will remember that characters in past entries have referred to a nation in the east many times. Players have never been able to visit these lands, as the games only vaguely mentioned that such a place exists. Until now! Players will finally be able to explore this eastern nation!

“Characters from these lands have made appearances in previous games but we’ve never experienced their culture. In Project Dragon, the adventure will unfold in a completely new setting with characters and scenery designed in a Japanese style. The characters have a totally new feel to them. Everyone’s so stylish now. We’re going to deliver an experience unique from the main series while expanding upon familiar elements, such as your day-to-day life, adventuring and romantic pursuits.

“With the protagonist being an Earthmate, dragons will be important to the story somehow. After all, Earthmates and dragons are bound by destiny. We’re really pushing the boundaries in a lot of new ways, but don’t worry. We’re keeping familiar aspects like romance elements, so all sorts of players will enjoy this one!”
