Nintendo is hard at work remaking The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2, which will be released to celebrate the series’ 40th anniversary.

That rumour comes from established insider Nate, who revealed what he had heard about Nintendo’s upcoming plans in the latest episode of Nate the Hate Podcast.

“So there is another anniversary this year, and it’s the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda. Everyone has been wondering ‘What are we going to get for a Zelda celebration?’ We’re entering April. We’ve heard nothing about Zelda’s 40th anniversary,” Nate began.

“What I can share with you today is that in the second half of 2026 – approaching the holidays if not the holidays – we are going to receive an Ocarina of Time remake for Switch 2.

“This is something I was a bit hesitant about in January. I was like, I don’t know if they would do a full remake? I thought maybe they would do an HD remaster. But no, I’m hearing an Ocarina of Time remake.”

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake will round out a strong year for first-party games that will include an unannounced Star Fox game, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, Splatoon Raiders, and The Duskbloods.

This is not the first time that Nintendo has revisited Link’s critically acclaimed adventure. The Nintendo 64 classic was not only released for the GameCube through The Legend of Zelda: Collector’s Edition with the fear-inducing Master Quest included, but it was also later remade for the Nintendo 3DS in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D.

The game has also been a key part of the company’s The Legend of Zelda-themed collaboration with The LEGO Group, seen in the Great Deku Tree 2-in-1 and more recent Ocarina of Time – The Final Battle sets.
