An anonymous source from a studio currently developing a title for Wii U has revealed that the system’s hardware is roughly twice as powerful as that of the Xbox 360, Develop reports.

Nintendo’s latest home console can achieve twice the processing and graphical potential of Microsoft’s current-gen hardware, and is outperforming current expectations. However, some studios were expecting more with the source stating: “I’ve heard [a project designer] complain it’s underpowered compared to what Nintendo announced, resulting in people having to de-scale their plans”.

Non-disclosure agreements regarding the Wii U’s architecture have meant that a number of rumours have begun circulating, with Nintendo expected to reveal the finalised specification at E3 2012.
