Rumour: The Death Bell Tolls For Miiverse

The Wii U received a system update this week, the first that the console has received in more than a year.

Nintendo, typically, didn’t provide any information on what it did beyond the usual “improvements to overall system stability” and tweaks to enhance the user experience, but data miners have delved into the changes to look for any undisclosed secrets.

The most troubling discovery is that it appears that the company will soon pull the plug on Miiverse, the social network service available on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS that let users share messages on boards tied to their favourite games.

“The Miiverse service has ended,” the currently inactive text reads. “Miiverse and any software features that make use of Miiverse are now unavailable.”

With consumer attention and resources shifting to Nintendo Switch it doesn’t come as a particular surprise but will be an undoubted disappointment to those that still enjoy posting and sharing screenshots on the service.
