Rumour: Super Mario Switch Development Nearing Completion

The next 3D Super Mario title was teased in the Nintendo Switch preview trailer, and rumblings suggest that the game’s development is nearing completion.

That once again comes from Emily Rogers, who has suggested that Nintendo may even decide to position it as a launch title over The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. That would certainly make sense, given the increased brand awareness that Super Mario Run will shortly provide.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if 3D Mario ends up being a day one launch title for Switch instead of Zelda… That’s all I’ll say on that,” Rogers writes. “That’s not to say that Zelda won’t/can’t be a launch window title. But 3D Mario was much further along in development than anyone thinks.

She clarified: “This isn’t speculation. I’m basing this off things I’ve been hearing for 3-4 months now. 3D Mario sounds like it’s practically finished.”

Nintendo Switch will release worldwide in March 2017.
