Nintendo has an unannounced Star Fox game in development for Nintendo Switch 2, which it is preparing for release in the coming months.
That rumbling comes from established insider Nate, who revealed what he had heard about Nintendo’s upcoming plans in the latest episode of Nate the Hate Podcast.
The Star Fox game will round out a strong year for first-party games that will include Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, Splatoon Raiders, The Duskbloods and an unannounced The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake.
“The game that looks to be kicking off the Nintendo Switch 2 summer of 2026 is from a franchise we haven’t seen in a while. A franchise that was iconic revolutionised gaming when it came out on the Super Nintendo. A first of its kind. I’m talking about a brand new Star Fox game,” he revealed.
“I’ve been told it is a classic-style Star Fox game. I have been told the visuals are supposed to be very good – very, very satisfying – and I’ve heard it does have online multiplayer.”
With Fox McCloud revealed to be making a surprise appearance in the upcoming The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, it’s clear that Nintendo hope to capitalise on the box office moment and introduce a wider community to the Star Fox leader’s heroic crew.
Aside from the resurrected Star Fox 2, the legendary squadron hasn’t had to protect the galaxy since the PlatinumGames-developed Star Fox Zero and Star Fox Guard on Wii U.
Called in to defend the Lylat System against and thwart the evil Andross’ invasion, Fox McCloud and his team pilot anything from a trusty Arwing to the tank-like Landmaster, and, most recently, the transformative Gyrowing.
The Star Fox series is known for its arcade-style on-rails shooting approach to gameplay, challenging you to lock on to enemies and rack up combos with twin laser upgrades and bombs. With gold and silver rings to retrieve, it fast became a fan-favourite thanks to the iconic lines that have since been immortalised and the chance to hunt out multiple routes that could lead you to secret areas with different boss battles.
