Nintendo has plans to release a revised Nintendo Switch model in late 2019, a rumour that has been sparked by suppliers and others that are aware of it happening.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Nintendo hopes that the move will help to boost the sales momentum behind the portable home console, which has lost some pace since it launched worldwide.

While the new Nintendo Switch model will “likely share many features with the current version and be compatible with existing Switch game software,” the technical specification remains undecided although one option is to improve the screen – using those closer to “recent smartphone LCDs” that would be “brighter, thinner and more energy-efficient.”

The revision could be released “as soon as summer next year,” although when we will exactly first hear official news about it remains unclear.

Nintendo is no stranger to revising their portable hardware, even the Nintendo 3DS saw several iterations – Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 3DS XL, New Nintendo 3DS, New Nintendo 3DS XL, Nintendo 2DS and New Nintendo 2DS XL.
