Rumour: Minecraft in development for Wii U

Minecraft is once again rumoured to be in development for Wii U, supposedly set to release in summer 2014.

That’s if a rumour from Nintendo Enthusiast is to be believed, supposedly told by a “retailer source” that Mojang have Wii U development kits and are looking “to be focusing on the GamePad for the Wii U version.”

As to why a retailer would even know such details makes me cast doubt on the website’s claims, especially as other console versions were all initially digital releases, although this isn’t the first time that we’ve heard Minecraft on Wii U under discussion.

Mojang’s lead designer previously stated that it would be “very unlikely” that Minecraft would ever come to Wii U, even after Microsoft’s console exclusivity deal expired.

Then, some months later, Nintendo’s Damon Baker added that they “have a continuing relationship with Mojang, and respect all the work that they’re doing, but no announcements at this time.
