It has been reported that Metroid Prime Remastered will release on Nintendo Switch later this year, set to potentially bring to an end years-long speculation that the project was in development.
That’s according to journalist Jeff Grubb, who has claimed that he has been told “pretty definitively” that it is on the way, marking 20 years since the original GameCube game launched in North America on 18th November 2002.
“I can say that I’ve been told pretty definitively that Metroid Prime Remastered is going to be one of their big holiday games,” Grubb explained on GiantBomb’s Game Mess Mornings show. “In the past, this is something I heard was in the works – they have things happening with that game. Now, it’s like I’ve been told that their plans are to release that game this holiday, I think almost certainly to line up with the 20th anniversary in November.”
As to whether Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption will also come to the portable home console, Grubb added: “However Nintendo decides in what order to release their games, they are going to do that but they’re going to do it separately it sounds like. [For] Metroid Prime 1, my understanding is that’s getting the big remaster treatment and then Metroid Prime 2 and Metroid Prime 3 are sort of getting… they’ll probably get updated controls and things like that, but they’re not getting quite the same overhaul that Metroid Prime 1 is getting.”
It has been more than two years since Nintendo announced that Metroid Prime 4’s development would be restarted at Retro Studios, and rumours that the Metroid Prime Trilogy was coming to Nintendo Switch started to emerge – an understandable plan to allow players to catch up on the storyline before the sequel’s eventual arrival.
