Update: Mario Tennis Club has now retracted their claim about Link being uncovered in a Mario Tennis Aces datamine, explaining that they “have no information to confirm it is true.”

“We want to publicly apologize about the Link Datamine. We have no information to confirm it is true. There is no confirmed evidence, and we shouldn’t have rushed the announcement. We’re sorry, we didn’t want to spread misinformation,” they admit.

“The situation is being taken care of. We would appreciate that this information is spread so we can avoid more misunderstandings and to prevent this to cause more damage. We’ll investigate deeper and next time be more cautious. Again, we’re sorry. It won’t happen again.”

Original: Nintendo and Camelot have been providing steady post-launch support for Mario Tennis Aces, delivering new modes, characters and content. But, there may soon be an unexpected addition to the character roster.

So far, we have seen characters like Diddy Kong, Petey Piranha, Shy Guy, Luma, Pauline and Boom Boom step up to the service line to start a rally, but there’s evidence that the next arrival will come from the kingdom of Hyrule.

Now, Mario Tennis Club has revealed that a recent data mine has suggested that the Link will soon be made available as a playable character with the chance to unlock the alternate Dark Link and Champion’s Tunic skins in an Online Tournament.

The discovery, credited to Ozzie9889, follows their previous efforts that uncovered that Lucien costume data exists for Luigi, Wario and Luigi, that there’s costume data for red, purple and blue Luma, and that Baby Mario will soon be added with green (Luigi) and yellow (Wario) costume data.

Mario Tennis Aces is now available exclusively for Nintendo Switch worldwide.
