With the Wii U not seen to have had the right audience for the Dark Souls series, it came as a surprise when FromSoftware was listed as a third-party partner for Nintendo Switch.

Now, Let’s Play Video Games report that a small team at the Japanese developer has been working hard for several months to see Dark Souls 3 release on the home gaming system.

Their source claims that the sprawling action role-playing game is running on the hardware “with a level of performance they are happy with,” although the studio has not yet committed to releasing it.

That is largely thanks in part to international discussions around whether they should re-release the Dark Souls trilogy in entirety on Nintendo Switch, which their intention to include all downloadable content.

FromSoftware will apparently wait to see how much demand there is for Nintendo Switch at launch, and, once early sales data has been shared, will then commit to producing the ports. If they moved forward with their plan, the Dark Souls 3 port would coincide with a PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC version with all downloadable content on-disc.
