After Intelligent Systems struck success with Pushmo, or Pullblox as it was named in Europe, Australia and New Zealand, on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS, the puzzler’s sudden popularity saw it followed soon after by sequel Crashmo, or Fallblox.

With Wii U arriving on the scene, the developer soon moved to introduce large-scale puzzles in Pushmo World, or Pullblox World, that was met with similar acclaim.

Now Liam Robertson, known for his detailed research as seen on Unseen64 and DidYouKnowGaming?, has uncovered that Crashmo World was intended to be the developer’s last release on Wii U.

Greenlit by Nintendo, the game had entered development in 2015. But, when work wrapped up on Paper Mario: Color Splash, resources soon shifted to Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo was happy for the small team that was developing Crashmo World to continue, but, with Nintendo Switch projects placing an increasing demand on resources, Intelligent System’s bosses saw greater sales potential in rallying their teams behind the games destined for the new home gaming system.

Crashmo World’s development was, therefore, stopped in December 2016, although it remained on schedule to launch in 2017. There were talks that the project could be transitioned to Nintendo Switch, but such discussions were soon shelved with the potential to return to them at a later date.
