The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening remake was the surprise reveal that had closed last month’s Nintendo Direct presentation. But, it may not be the only adventure that we can have with the green tunic-clad hero on Nintendo Switch this year.

That’s according to Vergeben, who, in an exchange with another GameFAQs user, reveals that he has learned that there is another 2D The Legend of Zelda game in development.

This is a “smaller” Nintendo eShop release compared to Link’s Awakening which is comparatively perceived as a “full project,” and which, he believes, will be announced in the coming months and arrive before we have the chance to wash ashore on Koholint Island.

There isn’t any more than that which was shared. Although if the rumor holds true, it would be likely that we would learn more in the E3 2019 Nintendo Direct if not earlier (or later).

It’s worth mentioning that Vergeben’s track record is inconsistent. While he accurately leaked Ridley, Simon Belmont, Ice Climbers, Incineroar and Ken for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate before they were revealed, but, as the person that sparked the Star Fox: Grand Prix rumor, he incorrectly claimed that it would finally be revealed to the world in last month’s Nintendo Direct.

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening was originally released for the Game Boy system more than 25 years ago, it remains to be one of the most beloved games in the series. Now back with a modern re-imagining, players can once again return to the mysterious Koholint Island where they must guide Link on a perilous adventure.

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening will release exclusively for Nintendo Switch worldwide in 2019.
