The Walt Disney Company and Square Enix have shared an extended trailer for Kingdom Hearts 4, shown during the Deep Dive Into Kingdom Hearts panel at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event this weekend.

With Kingdom Hearts 4 co-director Tai Yasue, Disney and Pixar Games director of product development Nana Gadd, and Kingdom Hearts creator Tetsuya Nomura as a surprise special guest, the panel commemorated 25 years of Kingdom Hearts by sharing insights about its past and future.

The four-minute extended trailer expands on the 90-second version released earlier, introducing Pixar’s Coco as the first new world to appear in the upcoming game.

We now see Riku for the first time, it is revealed that Mickey, Donald and Goofy will all be playable characters in Kingdom Hearts 4, and a mysterious voice closes out the trailer saying: “Sora, wake up and see.”

The game’s product listing reads: “Our hero Sora awakes in the unfamiliar world of Quadratum. As he looks for a way to return from this modern metropolis to his own world, his friends Donald and Goofy head for the Underworld in hopes of finding a clue to his whereabouts.

“The dynamic, fast-paced battle system allows you to effortlessly combine attacks and magic, as well as build combos with a brand-new battle feature. Change the Keyblade Sora wields to unleash unique attacks, matching the flow of battle to your own strategies and play style.”

Kingdom Hearts 4 will be released at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2 worldwide in late 2027.
