D3Publisher and Shade have confirmed a release date for Samurai Maiden on Nintendo Switch.

This samurai action game stars high school student Tsumugi Tamaori, who, after falling asleep after a boring day of history lessons, finds herself summoned in her dreams to the Sengoku period where she was alongside the historical figure, Nobunaga Oda.

The underworld has opened at the smouldering Honnoji Temple, and, having trained in the art of sword fighting as little more than a hobby, Tsumugi must put her skills to the test in an actual battle – using an evil warding blade that she is gifted to vanquish the evil undead.

You will be challenged to slaughter undead mobs with Tsumugi’s powerful swordsmanship, using stylish combination attacks and strong counters to slay zombies and tougher bosses.

She isn’t alone though, encountering three friendly ninjas known as The Gokage – Iyo, Hagane and Komimi – who choose to brave the underworld alongside her. On their quest together, the newfound team “will quarrel, laugh, and fight alongside each other, forging new bonds in the process.”

You can use the Gokage System to unleash a rapid combination of Tsumugi’s sword style and The Gokage’s powerful ninjutsu – the samurai’s slashing and piercing attacks matched with the ninjas’ wire arm, freezing yin yang jutsu and kunai attacks. When the group’s spirits are heightened they can unlock special unified abilities “by locking lips,” although they will need to build trust in each other before these can be used in battle.

Samurai Maiden will release at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide on 8th December 2022.
