Ysbryd Games and Panstasz have confirmed that World of Horror will release on Nintendo Switch this year.

This unsettling cosmic horror retro RPG is set in a small, seaside town in Japan. The Old Gods have reawakened and are clawing their way back into a world that has spiralled into a mysterious madness.

With the population’s sanity dwindling thanks to the otherworldly, grotesque creatures that terrorise those who call the place home, the only solution is to confront the terror that reigns over the apocalyptic end of the world.

It is down to you to make your way through this hellish, rogue-lite reality through turn-based combat and unforgiving choices, building a deck of event cards that will lead to different outcomes in your battles against the darkness.

With branching stories that follow five playable characters who choose to brave the chaos, you must unravel puzzles and mysteries through spells that sacrifice their sanity.

This love letter to the works of Junji Ito and H.P. Lovecraft is free of typical jump scares, and is complemented with a haunting chiptune score and a 1-bit art style with different palettes.

Ubisoft script writer and Hammers on Bone author Cassandra Khaw has collaborated with Panstasz on the game’s writing.

“Working with Cassandra has been a treat. She’s helped me tune up paragraph upon paragraph of chilling storytelling perfect for cosmic horror,” explains developer Pawel Kozminski.

“Her background and insight into horrific mindsets has helped me flesh out the unsettling nature of the mysteries, characters, and items you’ll find in World of Horror.”

World of Horror will release on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide in late 2020.
