Before presenting the Andrew Yoon Legend Award to The Pokémon Company, in his role as host, former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aimé recalled a problem that he faced early in his time at the company.
When working with the company’s retail partners, he discovered that they had shared their concern that they didn’t have enough Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire copies in stock to meet consumer demand leading into the holidays. That shortage, Fils-Aimé states, was something that he did not allow to happen again.
“You know, I had a long history with Pokémon when I was at Nintendo. This is a true story,” Fils-Aimé explained. “I had just joined the company and [was] there for only about a week when I had to work with our retail partners, because they literally did not have enough copies of Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Emerald [sic] for the Christmas rush. They were a little upset, and believe me, I never let that happen again. I always enjoy working with The Pokémon Company, and I love all of their games. Even the Poké Ball Plus controller with the Mew inside, you remember that? One of my favourites.”
